Lighty - Essie Keller

Mrs. Essie Leighty, 89, of Veedersburg Route 3, died at 9:45 a.m. Friday ( April 14, 1972) at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, where she had be en a patient three days.  Born Dec. 4, 1882, in Parke County, she was the daughter of William S. and Mahalia Dowden Keller.  She was married in 1 898 to Sherman Simms, she died in 1935.  She was then married to Orville Russell Leighty who died in 1937.  She had resided two miles north of Hillsboro since 1936.  She was a member of Hillsboro Nazarene Church.  Survivors include two sons, Raymond Simms of Logansport; three daughters, Mrs. Mamie Coleman of Hillsboro, Mrs. Marie Fugate of Attica and Mrs. Evelyn Roland of Garden City, Colo.; a brother, Howard Keller in Kansas.  25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin, in June of 1971, and two g eat-grandsons.  Services were Monday at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown, with the Rev. Michael Smythers officiating.  Burial was in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.  --Typed by Debby Masterson.
